MEMBER SPOTLIGHT: YOUR STORIES
Redbud Fitness has become an important part of my life. The values of happiness and healthy decision making go hand in hand, and that is just what you get when you walk in the door. I started attending in December 2012. I was in my 50's and a long distance runner with a couple of marathons and half marathons completed. I had been on the path to better health for six years and was 40 pounds down. And then......Redbud Fitness came into my life!!
Just the thought of taking a group exercise class felt miserably uncomfortable to me. I made the decision to step out of my comfort zone and give it a try. My first class was Zumba, and yes, I was the one going the wrong way! Next came Pump & Sculpt classes and Yoga. One of the first things I noticed is that I stood taller and stronger. My overall strength increased which made a huge difference in my daily life. Yoga offers the teachings of awareness. A time to just slow down, relax, stretch and breathe deep. I welcomed that into my life. The most enriching experience was when I attended a four week stress management class in the Fall of 2014. The practice of living in the present moment and meditation made me realize the importance of embracing life. In the Summer of 2015 I started my journey on the teachers path in Ayurveda Perfect Health at the Chopra Center in California. My purpose and passion as a teacher is to guide people toward a healthy, happy and whole life.
So, I invite you to join me at Redbud Fitness. You will find me teaching a class or taking one at The Studio/Redbud Fitness.
I've been going to Redbud Fitness for a little over a year. My initial goal was to have just a little time to myself and to tone my arms and legs. I'd noticed in the last two years that I was losing a lot of muscle tone. I particularly felt that my arms and shoulders were starting to look old. I've always been strong but i felt like I didn't look it at all!
There were a variety of classes available and after attending a variety I began to understand what I liked, what was helping me and what motivated me. I really like to be able to go just down the road a mile and a half and attend a yoga class, or barre, or push myself and do pump, tabata and Zumba all in one evening! In addition to the classes I was able to find extra motivation to run a little. I've always walked and I like runs where there are obstacles to climb and jump but never ran a full 5k - could never get my mind to let me so I alternated walk and run. And now I've done several 5ks and a 10k!
The instructors are great. They all care about every single one of us. Everyone has their own style so there is a 'stamp' on each class. What I hadn't counted on was the extra confidence I gained - before going here I would never have walked into another location's classes by myself. I am used to presenting to a room of people but when it comes to doing things for myself I shied away. I'm happy to find a class to join now when I'm traveling! I've lived in Buchanan for almost 15 years but really didn't know many people - work called for travel so all of my friends were in different states! I feel like I've met quite a few kindred souls and have some great friendships started here.
I'm pretty happy with where I am now. I'll never be a body builder but I am constantly complimented on my back and shoulders and I definitely like hearing that! I can't wait for the new fitness center to open - so many possibilities ahead!!!!
Redbud Fitness has positively changed my life forever! I have struggled with weight related issues since I've been 13 years old. I've also been a life long exercise hater, making it even more difficult to manage my weight. Everything changed when I walked into Redbud Fitness before there even was a Redbud Fitness!! I started taking yoga when they were in a small building out on Front Street and fell in love!
I had never found an exercise that I truly enjoyed before, but yoga was it for me! The instructor was very kind and Teresa Green was so encouraging, I knew I had found a great place to be. Even though yoga was benefiting my life and health in myriad ways, my weight wasn't going down. When my doctor told me my sugar was too high and I was in danger of becoming diabetic, I knew I had to do something. So, when the studio moved to the current location, I joined the weights and measure group. With the information and positive support I was receiving, I finally began to see results. I was still afraid to take exercise classes because I didn't think I could keep up, but promised myself I would as soon as I lost 20 pounds.
Well, that day came sooner than I expected! At Teresa's recommendation, I started with Pump and Sculpt and have never looked back. I began working out regularly and the weight started falling off! I have lost over 60 pounds and am stronger than I have ever been! The very special supportive friends I have made at the studio have been key to my success. Even though I now enjoy working out and leading a very active life, I still find it difficult to exercise independently. The positive accountability I receive at the studio makes me keep coming back. The love and support are evident every time I walk in the door to see the smiling faces of my friends and instructors and hear their chorus of "Hi Che!" The Studio is my happy place and it is amazing!
